A NOTE ABOUT THE TWO VERSIONS After at least two revolutions, which I don't wish to recount here, I decided to do two versions of this story. A Pearl version, in which Elazul is paired with Pearl, and Sandra is more of a friend (though she is attacted to Elazul), and a Sandra version, which is a full 'love triangle' between Elazul, Pearl and Sandra, and veers more in Sandra's favor. The differences, for the most part, consist in various scenes added or omitted from either version. General events are the same in both versions. Parts I and II are, indeed, 99% identical. At first they consisted of a more Sandra- based story, clearly showing her attraction to Elazul; but I decided that this was obvious enough to merit a fully separate version for the Pearl version of the story, even though the differences come down to mere lines in many instances Part III and IV's differences are almost equally as subtle, often consisting in certain paragraphs, sometimes down to mere word choices. Again, I would say that the two versions are some 95% identical here. Part V is the one affected the most closely, with some whole scenes with Sandra omitted from the Pearl version; but, again, only one or two chapters will be greatly affected. And of course, the endings will differ, each version showing Elazul ending up with the respective female protagonist. Thus, the versions are, overall, almost 90% identical. The CHARACTER which all this will affect the most is Elazul. He will be the one person for whom the character exposition will be slightly different in both versions (he's probably looked a little more into in Sandra's version, however.) This is the main reason, indeed, why I decided to do both versions; I thought that it would be a pity not to use the opportunity to look into different sides of Elazul's personality that the Pearl version will not afford. This is what the versions mean. Elazul+ Pearl will mean that the division of the story in terms of which relationship is delineated more in depth will be about 60% for Elazul + Pearl, 40% for Elazul + Sandra. The Elazul + Sandra element will be there, but more under the surface than otherwise. I even ended up revising Parts I and II to make sure the element is even more subtle; but readers will definitely notice the trace of it remaining in this version. Elazul + Sandra is slightly more complicated. a) It does NOT mean that Elazul's relationship with Pearl will be disregarded or skipped over. His relations to Black Pearl is a central feature of the story, and it will stay. b) The division will be about 60% Elazul + Sandra, 40% Elazul + Pearl. c) This choice will be just a bit more complex (see above comments about Elazul's character). In the end, it's simply best to read your preferences; and if some readers wish to read the story more than once (does anyone ever do that with fanfiction?), they'll be afforded the opportunity to see the story in a slightly different angel on re-read.
