You might say, "How many of those damn Dragonball Z RPGs did they make?!", to which I may respond, "Too many". This one is the third and final of the DBZ RPGs that follow the anime and manga, the 4th one is a Gaiden and is based on a Playdia DBZ game. It's a DBZ Famicom RPG, so of course I'm translating it! This game introduces a lot of neat features that later were scrapped and didn't make it into the Legend of the Super Saiyan Super Famicom game. The first thing you'll probably notice is the addition of various symbols replacing the standard Defense part of the attack cards. What each one of these symbols actually does is explained in one of the menus. The next thing is the ability to fight on the overworld map, which is kind of fun the first couple of times but quickly becomes a pain. This time instead of sitting through hammering the A button trying to select all of your characters' attacks you have the option of setting the Attack select to Automatic and not be bothered with it. Also worth noting is the Auto setting doesn't use the cards in your hand, so you can keep that deck of Z cards for the boss. Story-wise, this game goes from the time Goku becomes a Super Saiyan and fights Freeza to the battle with the first form of Cell following a battle with the Androids. Androids 16, 17, and 18 are in the game, as are 19 & 20. Coca-Cola (y'know, Freeza's brother) is also present mid-ways through the game. I'm pretty sure that Vegeta is a playable character this time around. In fact, you control just him for a good portion of the game, and if that's not enough Gohan is sporting a mullet that would make Hideo Kojima cry! Anyway, on to the good stuff. The patch is up for download and it is complete! So what are you doing reading this? Go download it already! |
